30th EMAN EU Conference 2027
"From Purpose to Impact:
The Future of Sustainability Management Accounting, Control and Reporting"

20 - 22, June 2027 | Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Welcome Reception: Sunday, 20 June 2027, Conference 21 – 22 June 2027

Celebrating 30 Years of EMAN! Three decades of advancing research, exchanging knowledge and connecting academics and practitioners in sustainability management accounting!

We are delighted to invite you to the 30th EMAN EU Conference, taking place on 20–22 June 2027 at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Celebrating three decades of the Environmental and Sustainability Management Accounting Network (EMAN), this year's conference provides an opportunity to reflect on the development of the field, exchange new research insights and explore the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The conference theme, "From Purpose to Impact: The Future of Sustainability Management Accounting, Control and Reporting," invites us to explore how organisations can move beyond sustainability ambitions and commitments towards meaningful action and demonstrable societal impact.

Across sectors, organisations are increasingly expected to demonstrate how their sustainability strategies, policies and practices contribute to sustainable value creation. Yet important questions remain: How can organisations translate sustainability ambitions into decisions and actions? How can accounting, control and reporting systems support organisational learning, accountability and continuous improvement? And how can we ensure that sustainability information contributes not only to measuring and reporting performance, but also to creating meaningful societal impact?

How can sustainability accounting, control and reporting move beyond measuring and disclosing performance to actively shaping decisions, driving organisational change and creating meaningful societal impact? This question lies at the heart of EMAN 2027.

Bringing together academics, practitioners and policymakers, the conference aims to foster critical dialogue, exchange new research insights and advance our understanding of the evolving role of sustainability management accounting, control and reporting in sustainable value creation and long-term resilience.

We welcome conceptual, empirical, methodological and policy-oriented contributions from established scholars, early-career researchers and doctoral students. The two-day conference will feature academic paper sessions, practitioner roundtables, Paper Development Workshops and opportunities for networking and collaboration.

A Supportive and Engaged Research Community

EMAN is an inclusive and supportive international research network that values academic exchange, constructive feedback and the development of new ideas.

The conference offers a welcoming environment for established and emerging scholars, as well as practitioners, to share research, discuss emerging challenges and explore opportunities for collaboration.

We particularly encourage early-career researchers and PhD candidates to participate and benefit from the network's developmental and collaborative atmosphere.

Alongside academic paper presentations, the conference will feature practitioner roundtables to encourage dialogue between research and practice. These sessions will bring together different perspectives to discuss contemporary sustainability challenges, emerging developments and the role of accounting, control and reporting in supporting meaningful organisational and societal change.

Paper Development Workshops (PDWs)

As part of our commitment to supporting research development, EMAN 2027 will offer Paper Development Workshops (PDWs) for researchers wishing to further strengthen their manuscripts.

These interactive sessions will provide opportunities to receive constructive feedback, discuss theoretical and methodological contributions, and explore potential pathways towards publication.

The PDWs are intended for researchers working on full manuscripts that could potentially be developed for publication in academic journals or forthcoming special issues.

Participation in the PDWs requires submission of a full paper of 7,000–12,000 words by 30 April 2027.

Further information on the PDWs, selection procedures and potential special issues will be announced in due course.
